Coaching is not a form of counseling or therapy. Coaching is a form of personal and professional development that enhances performance and ‘being’ in all areas of your life. While therapy focuses on your life and moves backwards to heal old wounds, coaching helps you to focus on the present as well as the future you want to create. The client is not considered broken. I view my clients as naturally creative, resourceful, and whole.
Coaching sessions are usually scheduled on a weekly, or bi-weekly basis. They are usually done via the telephone, but if you live in western Michigan in-person sessions are available also. In our sessions you will choose what you want to work on each week. Together we will determine the best steps possible for attaining your goals and develop action steps you will take in-between sessions.
The basis of coaching is the relationship between the client and the coach. The focus of this relationship is on you and on what you want from your life; then on how you can achieve it. What is unusual about the coaching relationship is that you will be consistently and exceptionally supported while you make the forward movement you desire. I will be by your side when you face the “speed bumps” that have stopped you in the past. I will train you to reach for your goals instead of just dreaming about them.
My responsibility is to keep you on your own track. I will do this by asking powerful questions, by holding you accountable to the commitments you have made, and by celebrating your progress every step of the way.
The purpose of asking powerful and thought-provoking questions will be to help you break free of old beliefs and judgments while encouraging you to consider different perspectives. You can expect to see and experience new potentials within yourself and new opportunities surrounding you.
This process takes place in a nurturing, safe, and courageous atmosphere where you will be challenged to stretch yourself and move into new, dynamic ways of thinking and being. All the while, you can expect to be listened to in a way that you have probably never been listened to before. It is a non-judgmental and supportive space where I will not only listen to your words, but to the thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and energy behind what you say.
I will support you as you stretch to reach your goals. I will encourage you every step of the way. And together we will take great delight in celebrating what you are discovering about yourself as you begin living a life that fully reflects your gifts, talents, and passions!
The relationship between a client and coach is unique. Because you work together very closely, it is important that you really connect with each other. The best way to find out if you are suited to each other is to have a trial session before you make a commitment.
If you are interested in being coached but want to check it out first, I offer a complimentary thirty minute session to give you an opportunity to experience the process. If we’re a good fit and you decide you would like to proceed with coaching, we can schedule on-going sessions. There is no obligation to the complimentary session.
I ask for a minimum three month commitment. Most clients continue for a year or longer. Three months allows time for you and I to design and build a partnership that will best serve you; to take steps needed to make changes in your life; and to experience results from the work you are doing. After the initial three months, the length of time you and I work together will be based upon your needs and desires. It is an individual choice.
My fee for coaching is $250 per month. The first month (called the Discovery Sessions) you and I will meet, either by phone or in person, for three (90 minute) sessions. Subsequent months, we will meet for three (50 minute) sessions per month. The cost of coaching is an investment in yourself—in your future, your happiness, your satisfaction with life.
